14 Schuylerville High School seniors earned a spot in the Schuylerville Chapter of the National Honor Society (NHS), a prestigious membership students attain by demonstrating the five pillars that serve as standards for the Society: knowledge, scholarship, leadership, character and service.
To become a member of the NHS, students must submit an application and essay that demonstrates they embody the NHS pillars, report a minimum of 30 hours of service and hold a GPA above 90%. Once they are inducted into the NHS, during senior year, students must maintain their overall GPA of 90+, complete additional service hours, attend monthly meetings and participate in a group service project.
“As you continue your journey in the National Honor Society, remember, you have two hands,” said Schuylerville High School teacher Emily Flores. “One to help yourself and the second to help others.”
Flores and several other Schuylerville High School teachers, as well as Principal James Ducharme, gave inspirational speeches to the inductees after lighting candles representing the five NHS pillars.

“Leaders welcome a challenge and step up when the times are the toughest,” said Principal Ducharme. “They never give up and they have a strong will. Each of you has the ability to be a leader in some aspect of your life right now. When the opportunity presents itself and you have the ability to make a positive impact on something you believe in, take it, and never look back.”
During the ceremony, National Honor Society advisor, Kelly McKinley, administered the NHS Pledge to the new members after they were given a membership card and pin. Congratulations to the following students:
