The Schuylerville CSD Board of Education has been working to fill a vacancy on the Board, following the resignation of Mr. Michael Bodnar effective Aug. 31. Education Law gives the Board of Education the following options to fill a vacancy:
- The Board may hold a special election within 90 days
- The Board may appoint a person to fill the vacancy until the district’s Annual Budget Vote/Board of Education election in May.
- If the Board chooses this option, the person appointed will serve until June 30, 2025. The person elected in May will serve a two-year term beginning July 1, 2025, to fulfill the remainder of Mr. Bodnar’s term.
- If the Board chooses this option, the person appointed will serve until June 30, 2025. The person elected in May will serve a two-year term beginning July 1, 2025, to fulfill the remainder of Mr. Bodnar’s term.
A central school district does not have the option of leaving the seat vacant.
The Board has decided to appoint former Board of Education member Shaun Cumm to fill the open seat for the 2024-25 school year.
Shaun Cumm is a Physician’s Assistant at Glens Falls Hospital for Adirondack Cardiology. Cumm has been a Cardiology PA for more than 20 years, working in the hospital and office to provide cardiac care to the Glens Falls/Saratoga area. Cumm graduated from South Glens Falls High School, and went on to earn a bachelor’s degree in biology from SUNY Cortland. Cumm earned his Physician’s Assistant degree from LeMoyne College. Cumm has coached more than 40 youth/club soccer, football, basketball and lacrosse teams, has been involved in the South high Marathon Dance as a core volunteer, and has also served on several Glens Falls Hospital committees. Most recently, Cumm served on the Schuylerville CSD Board of Education from July 1, 2023 through June 30, 2024. He has three children in Schuylerville High School in grades 12, 10, and 9. Cumm will serve until June 30, 2025; in May of 2025 voters will elect a person to fill the remainder of the seat’s vacancy, which will be two years.
