Schuylerville High School students have a broad range of interests, which are reflected by the number of clubs and organizations in which our pupils participate. Below are the offerings for the 2024-25 school year:
Art Club
- Open to students in grades 9-12
- Advisor: Mr. Winslow
- It is the Art Club’s goal to raise money doing creative fundraisers in a multitude of areas in the school setting. These fundraisers will be products or services rendered in an artistic manner. All goods will be artistically created and all services will be artistic services (Ex. face painting and silent art auction) We, as a club, would also like to participate in artistic community service opportunities in the community and within the schools. We would also like to participate in charity events and donate time and goods and services to those in need. The art club would like to be a highly active club and raise enough money to go on a few trips as well as raise money to pay for supplies for further art projects and services.
Drama Club
- Open to students in grades 9-12
- Advisor: Ms. Rechak
- Drama Club provides theatrical experiences in an exciting, challenging and fun atmosphere. Students have the opportunity to participate in many ways both on stage and behind the scenes with acting, choreography, set, stage, lighting, sound, and more. In addition, students are encouraged to gain leadership skills by assisting with the Middle School’s production. The 2025 High School Drama Production of Harry Potter and the Cursed Child will take be performed February 28 and March 1.
Environmental Club
- Open to students in grades 9-12
- Advisor: Mrs. Flores
- The High School Environmental Club is open to all students interested in promoting environmental awareness throughout the school and community. Activities include: recycling, environmental competitions, climate summit events, and outdoor events. This student run club collects and recycles paper products throughout the school building. Students participate in an environmental science competition called Environthon held at the Saratoga State Park in May. The club does annual outdoor activities held within the Adirondack Park, hiking and rafting included.
FFA (Formerly Future Farmers of America)
- Open to students in grades 7-12
- Advisors: Mary Elizabeth Foote & Carlyn Miller
- FFA is an co-curricular student organization for those interested in agriculture and leadership. While the letters “FFA” stand for Future Farmers of America, FFA is not just for students who want to be production farmers; instead it welcomes members who aspire to careers as teachers, doctors, scientists, business owners and more. Today, FFA remains committed to the individual student, providing a path to achievement in premier leadership, personal growth and career success through agricultural education. FFA continues to help the next generation rise up to meet challenges by helping its members to develop their own unique talents and explore their interests in a broad range of agricultural career pathways. Throughout the year, students participate in field trips, state and national conventions, leadership competitions and so much more!
French Club
- Open to students in grades 9-12
- Advisor: Mrs. McKinley
- French Club conducts activities that relate to the study of French but cannot be easily incorporated into class time. Members plan events for holidays, play French games, celebrate National Foreign Language Week in March, and prepare French dishes to enjoy (French chocolates and crepes). French Club also organizes fundraisers (poinsettias and French chocolates) to finance an end of the year dinner at a local French restaurant, and a donation to the Caring and Sharing Program. The highlight event for French Club is the annual French and Spanish Lip Sync Battle that takes place in March. All proceeds from the evening fund scholarships for our participating French/Spanish 4/5 students.
Freshman Class
- Advisor: Ms. Lewis
- The freshman class participates in several fundraising activities throughout the year to raise funds for the class account. The class officers are responsible for representing their entire class in a positive and respectful manner. The officers meet once a month to discuss business that affects the entire class. All members of the freshman class are encouraged to participate in some type of community service during the year.
Gay Straight Alliance
- Advisor: Ms. Lewis
- Our Gay Straight Alliance is open to all students and staff interested in supporting each other and creating a school climate which is inclusive and accepting of all students. We strive to be inclusive of all sexual orientations and gender identity/expression of students and staff. Allies of the LGBT community are welcome and include family members and friends who want to learn more about how to create a safe and accepting environment for all.
High School Chorus
- Students in grades 9-12 can audition
- Advisor: Jodi Ogburn
- The purpose for the High School Chorus is to provide opportunities for exceptional singers to expand their vocal talents. They will do this by studying vocal literature and performing in the Senior High School concerts, as well as school and community events.
Junior Class
- Advisor: Mrs. Driscoll
- The junior class participates in several fundraising activities throughout the year to help offset the expenses incurred for the junior prom. The class wants every junior who wishes to attend the prom to be able to do so. The fundraisers include, but are not limited to, the sales of Save around Books and cookie dough. The class will be participating in community service projects during the year and all class members are encouraged to attend. The junior class officers are promoting class unity and camaraderie and want to foster class participation.
Mock Trial Team
- Open to students in grades 9-12
- Advisors: Mr. Sgambati & Mr. Conneally
- Mock Trial is an extracurricular activity that helps students develop useful knowledge about the law, questioning techniques and advocacy skills. Mock Trial begins with a conflict or dispute between two parties that can’t be solved by either of those two parties. Students play out the roles of plaintiffs, defendants, witnesses and jurors in a real court format. Students use general rules of evidence, procedure, fact explanations and witness statements as they pursue legal proceedings. Students work with a real attorney and a teacher/advisor to further their understanding of court proceedings.
National Honor Society
- Open to students in grades 11 & 12
- Advisor: Mrs. McKinley
- National Honor Society is an organization that recognizes outstanding high school students. It honors those students who have demonstrated excellence in the areas of scholarship, leadership, service and character. Students are invited to apply after the first semester of junior year.
Quiz Team
- Students in grades 9-12 can try out
- Advisor: Mr. Bryson
- Quiz Team is an academic team that participates in the North Country Academic Quiz Bowl. This is a league that consists of a mix of public and private schools, such as Saratoga Springs, Queensbury and Emma Willard. The season begins in early October and ends in January. The team plays a series of six games both random and matched. The games are played at Queensbury High School in a Jeopardy-type fashion. Schools that accumulate enough points participate in a single elimination playoff format usually held in late January/early February. A single-day tournament in December held in Burlington, Vermont is also tentatively scheduled.
SADD Club
- Advisor: Mrs. Kline
- Students Against Destructive Decisions participants plan activities to send positive messages. Activities include red ribbons at Christmas, signing of the prom promise, letters to prom attendees from elementary students encouraging them to have a safe time, Make-A-Wish, Safe Spring at Skidmore speakers to students from MADD (Mothers Against Drunk Driving).
Senior Class
- Advisor: Mr. Robinson
- The officers meet once a month to discuss business that affects the entire class. The senior class will be doing the following fundraisers:
- October: Mourningkill Farm Pies
- November: Eco-Scent Candles
The fundraisers will help to fund the various class activities that take place throughout the year such as the Senior Lock-In, Lake George Lunch Cruise, and assisting individuals in funding the cost of their senior trip.
Ski & Snowboard Club
- Open to students in grades 9-12
- Advisor: Mrs. Vallee
- Ski and Snowboard Club is an exciting opportunity for people of all abilities. The club makes six trips to Willard Mountain, leaving school at 3 p.m. and returning by 7:30 p.m. The first organizational meeting is held at the end of November.
Sophomore Class
- Advisor: Mr. Reilly
- Sophomore year is very exciting for Schuylerville’s 10th-grade students as they continue to fundraise for their class account and receive class rings in December. Class officers are expected to represent the sophomore class with continued dignity and respect. All sophomores should feel free to share ideas with class officers or Mr. Reilly and engage in activities that will presently and in the future benefit these students.
Spanish Club
- Open to students in grades 9-12
- Advisor: Mrs. Willson
- As a group, members discuss a variety of community service and fundraising ideas in hopes of giving back to the community. Some of our most successful events have been our poinsettia sale; Halloween costume collection; serving as the official Spanish book collection site for Project: Cameron’s Story; the Knocking Down Hunger campaign, and the Cinco de Milo get moving challenge. At the end of the year, members often share an evening of conversation and Hispanic food at the Mexican Connection in Saratoga. Spanish Club also plan events for holiday celebrations and in conjunction with French Club, organizes events for Foreign Language Week in March.
Student Council
- Open to students in grades 9-12
- Advisor: Pam DeLucia
- The objective and purpose of the Student Council shall be to represent the students of Schuylerville High School, unify the student body through social activities and community service opportunities, voice the concerns of the students, and provide leadership building opportunities within a network of positive peer support. Student council members plan school spirit weeks, pep rallies, and student-created special events. Meetings are held twice a month. All students are welcome and encouraged to be involved.
Varsity Club
- Open to students in grades 9-12
- Advisor: Mrs. Vallee
- The purpose of Varsity Club is to help promote leadership, pride and sportsmanship at Schuylerville High School and throughout the community. The varsity club was created in fall 2016 to embrace and exemplify what it means to be a Black Horse student athlete. Varsity Club is made up of two representatives from each varsity sport, club officers and two advisors.
Yearbook Club
- Students in grades 7-12
- Advisors: Mr. Marvin & Ms. Flores
- The Schuyler Yearbook Club gives students the opportunity to be a part of a staff that creates an exciting and professional-looking publication for their classmates. Through hard work, dedication to details, and the right touch of creativity, students develop ideas into reality. Members meet and dabble in the art of layout, photography, graphic design, journalism/creative writing, advertising, and sales. Join to help make your high school memories last forever!
