Varsity softball team achieves highest level of post-season play in 20 years

The Schuylerville High School softball team finished its 2024 season as NYSPHSAA Class B semi-final champions, the highest achievement for the program in 20 years! The team finished its regular season with the Section 2, Class B title, with a win over Tamarac, 3-2 on May 23. During the regional finals, senior Sophia Wahl celebrated her 400th career strikeout. Following the state championship, Wahl was selected to play in the first annual 518 Softball Futures game with top 518 softball players.

“17, that’s the number of girls who made school history with our first ever appearance in the state championship game,” said Coach Katie Bottisti. “This group of girls did something extremely special and made memories that will last a lifetime. They won a sectional title for the first time in 20 years, but didn’t stop there. They continued onto the regional championship and state finals. This was all possible due to the years of hard work, practice, and perseverance. We’ve played an extremely hard league and non-league schedule the past few years which only prepared us for our post-season journey. I also want to acknowledge the parents and community members who supported us! Without them, we wouldn’t have been able to do what we did, thank you! The nine seniors have left a legacy on the program; they will be a group that we tell everyone about for years to come. As we always say at the end of each game, “take the good, learn from the bad, and make tomorrow better.”

“We knew going into this season that we had a talented group of softball players,” added Coach Amy Weed. “They surpassed our expectations and accomplished something that many teams only dream of doing. I am so proud of their hard work and the example they have set for younger players. This will be a team I will always remember.”
